Long-time friends and musical collaborators Hanneke Cassel, Mike Block, Natalie Haas, and Yann Falquet team up for a Scottish-Scandinavian-Americana EXTRAVAGANZA!

American-Scottish fiddler Hanneke Cassel is a performer, teacher and composer whose career spans over two decades. Her style fuses influences from the Isle of Skye and Cape Breton Island with Americana grooves and musical innovations, creating a cutting-edge acoustic sound that retains the integrity and spirit of the Scottish tradition. Hanneke’s music is a blend of the contemporary and traditional, described by the Boston Globe as “exuberant and rhythmic, somehow wild and innocent, delivered with captivating melodic clarity and an irresistible playfulness.”  Hanneke’s latest release, Trip to Walden Pond, features traditional Scottish and Cape Breton tunes and seventeen new pieces composed in the Scottishidiom.  This will be the first performance in the US of music from the album with the PRODUCER, Antti Järvelä!

Mike Block is a pioneering multi-style cellist, singer, composer, and educator. Hailed by Yo-Yo Ma as the "ideal musician of the 21st-Century”, Mike is part of the Grammy-award winning Silk Road Ensemble, a graduate of the Juilliard School, and an Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music.  Mike is also an active recording artist of original material, folk music, cross-cultural collaborations, and he has an ongoing project to record all of the Bach cello suites in acoustically glorious bathrooms of famous concert halls, via BachInTheBathroom.com. As one of the first wave of cellists to adopt a strap in order to stand and move while playing, Mike was the first standing cellist to perform at Carnegie Hall, using a cello strap of his own design, called the Block Strap, a performance which the NY Times called "Breathless ... Half dance, half dare.”

Natalie Haas is one of the most sought after cellists in Celtic music today. She and Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser have toured as a duo for 18 years, wowing audiences at festivals and concerts worldwide with their unique sound. She has appeared on over 50 albums, including those of Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster, Irish greats Altan, Solas, and Liz Carroll, and Americana icon Dirk Powell. Natalie has also toured with Mark O'Connor as a member of his Appalachia Waltz Trio. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Natalie is currently based in Boston, where she is an associate professor of cello at Berklee College of Music.

Montrealer Yann Falquet is one of the most creative acoustic guitarists in today's Québécois music scene. Over the last fifteen years, he has recorded five albums and toured the world with French Canadian power trio Genticorum. He also toured for three years with the award-winning Canadian celtic/world group the McDades. Yann has explored many musical styles and holds a bachelor's degree in jazz. Over the years, he has developed a unique personal guitar style for Québécois folk music, rhythmically powerful yet subtly complex.

In the last few years, the newlywed husband and wife team of Yann & Natalie have been performing together as a duo. Don't miss this exciting and rare opportunity to hear them live, performing a mix of Québécois traditional songs and new takes on folk music from throughout Western Europe.
