Tunes from the Scottish Highlands with Mairi Chaimbeul

Starts: 02/24/2018
Saturday 12PM - 2PM

A dynamic and versatile musician, Màiri, from the Isle of Skye in Scotland is making her name at the cutting-edge of the contemporary traditional music scene. Having made her home in Boston, she tours internationally with fiddler Jenna Moynihan, progressive-folk band Aerialists, Darol Anger & The Furies and the Brìghde Chaimbeul Trio. Though Màiri's influences are wide-ranging, she is a native Gaelic speaker and is deeply rooted in the music and song of the highlands of Scotland. Join her for an afternoon learning a melody or two from the Scottish Highlands, with some discussion of the tunes' background as well as style, ornamentation and phrasing. All instruments are welcome and the workshop will be taught by ear, so students are encouraged to bring their recording devices.
